Brain Bowl
Competition is this Saturday, Feb.6th. Good Luck competitors!
Practices have been going well. Mrs Carter has been a tremendous help. Kids are excited. Sounds like we have a great team. Some have been with the team since 6th grade, when I had the honor of starting the program and working with the youngsters. It will be hard to see them go onto high school. Hopefully, they will place at this competition.
Brain Bowl is designed to motivate students to improve skills in mathematics, writing and reading. Students prepare for the Brain Bowl over a period of several months by solving challenging problems in all subject areas, reading middle- and high-school level written works, learning and using advanced vocabulary in writing and speech, and exercising their speaking and critical-thinking skills.
All students are invited to join, but they must be dedicated to teamwork and be knowledgeable in several subject areas, including history, civics, science, math, and geography. If you are interested in joining this team, come see Ms. Hoopfer or Ms. Golla or Ms. Calvin.
Ms. Calvin will be taking the place of Ms. Golla due to Ms. Golla coaching two other teams. She started the competition at the school three years ago. It was such a hit, that the kids wanted to keep the team going. We now have Reena Carter, parent of Ramsey Carter coaching, Ms. Hoopfer and Ms. Calvin because we have extremely motivated and bright students that need to be challenged. Thanks to them for stepping up to the challenge of coaching. Ms. Golla looks forward to supporting the kids at the competition in February.
