Mr. Tabb's Math Notebook Requirements
A three-ring binder will be kept for this class, and will only contain papers for this class. Your notebook must be organized and neat with dividers for each section. Please use only loose-leaf paper! It is your responsibility to bring it to class every day. Maintaining a complete, organized AND neat notebook is a significant part of your report card assessment. The Classroom, Reference Information, and Assessment Sections contain work for all Units during the year. Work in the Journal and Homework Sections can be removed at the end of each Unit and filed in your classroom folder for future reference.
THIS SUMMARY IS THE FIRST PAGE OF YOUR NOTEBOOK.
Section 1 – Classroom Information
This Section contains general information hand-outs such as classroom policies, rules, and procedures. I try to use goldenrod colored paper for these items.
Section 2 – Reference and Review Information
This Section contains: (1) Unit goals letters; (2) vocabulary definitions of the key words used in each Unit; (3) information such as formula sheets and multiplication tables; (4) DPS Benchmark and CSAP review problems, and; (5) Comprehensive Review Packets (CRP). File “like” work together in chronological order. I try to use blue colored paper for these items.
Section 3 – Assessments
This Section includes your quizzes, tests, projects, notebook evaluations, and self-assessments. File “like” work together in chronological order. I try to use green or brown paper for these items.
Section 4 – Journal
This Section includes all work you do during class including warm-ups and group work. The first page of the Section is a completed Daily Journal Log that is a cumulative record of the major class assignments for each Unit; think of it like a table of contents for your classroom work. The Math Daily Objective is posted each day with the Class Daily Agenda. If you wish, you can use the Math Daily Objective Summary to record self-reminders of any ideas, concepts or problems that you may not fully understand and that you need additional study. File your work for the week in chronological order. Please start each day’s work on a new page with standard school headings. The first entry each day is the Daily Objective. The next entry each day is the day’s warm-up exercise. Following the warm-up exercise is your completed work as we follow the day’s agenda. The last entry at the end of class is at least one concept or idea you learned today.
Section 5 – Homework
This Section includes all of your homework assignments, filed in chronological order. The first page is a Homework Log. It is optional.
